Shelley had tried everything, meditation, acupuncture, exercise but nothing worked.
“I was at the end of my rope,” Shelley said.  “I couldn’t relax, my jaw was killing me.”
Shelley chalked it up to stress and resigned herself to live with the pain the rest of her life.
“Then I went to my chiropractor and she asked if I’d considered doing something about my diet. I actually had thought of doing a cleansing but I thought what does this have to do with stress?”
The chiropractor, suggested Shelley start drinking green smoothies to cleanse her system. Shelley went out and bought a Vitamix blender. For the last year, she’s been drinking a smoothie (12 ounces) for breakfast every morning which keeps her satisfied until lunchtime. She has a second smoothie at her snack time around 4p.  She eats a healthy lunch and dinner.
“These smoothies have changed my life.  I feel better than I have in a really long time.  And I’ve lost 5o pounds,” she says.  “My husband and kids have each lost 20 pounds because they’re drinking the smoothies, too, and getting more fruits and vegetables.”
Shelley started out using Vitamix recipes, but then has expanded her repertoire and gotten more creative.  She purchases mostly frozen fruits and veggies, and buys organic whenever she can.
“I consume so many fruits and veggies I’m glad I made the switch to organic when I did,” Shelley says.  “I also planted an organic veggie garden last year and love picking my spinach fresh.”
Below are two Vitamix recipes Shelley likes.

Going Green Smoothie
Yield: 3 1/2 cups (840 ml)
Ingredients
1 cup (160 g) green grapes
1/2 cup (78 g) pineapple chunks
2 cups (60 g) fresh spinach, packed
1/2 ripe banana, peeled
1/2 cup (120 ml) water
1/2 cup (120 ml) ice cubes
1. Place all ingredients into the Vitamix container in the order listed and secure lid.
2. Select Variable 1.
3. Turn machine on and slowly increase speed to Variable 10, then to High.
4. Blend for 60 seconds or until desired consistency is reached. Serve immediately.
A Little Bit of Everything Smoothie
Yield: 3 cups (720 ml)
Preparation: 10 minutes
Processing: 1 minute
Ingredients
1/2 cup (120 ml) soy milk
1/2 cup (80 g) red grapes
1 orange, peeled, halved
2 baby carrots
1/2 peach, pitted
1 cup (150 g) frozen unsweetened strawberries
1/2 cup (45 g) chopped broccoli
1/2 cup (15 g) spinach leaves
1/2 cup (78 g) pineapple chunks
1/4 banana, peeled, frozen
1 cup (240 ml) ice cubes

1. Place all ingredients into the Vitamix container in the order listed and secure lid.
2. Select Variable 1.
3. Turn machine on and slowly increase speed to Variable 10, then to High.
4. Blend for 1 minute, using the tamper to press the ingredients into the blades.

Shelley’s recipe has more ingredients because she makes three smoothies (two in the morning for Shelley and her husband and one for her snack) at a time.

Shelley’s Good Morning Smoothie
1.5 cup filtered water
2 cups fresh spinach or kale (try different amounts to suit your taste)
8 oz. frozen broccoli
3 whole carrots, cut in half
2 apples, quartered
1 banana
12 oz. frozen strawberries OR 6 oz. raspberries & 6 oz. blueberries
Pop it all in a blender, and press “On!”
Taste. If you like it sweeter, throw in ¼ cup of frozen pineapple chunks. Tangy? Then add a peeled lime.
Enjoy!
